The hypocrisy of politics…

In was a cold winter’s night, November 2nd as I was preparing to go to the gym. I happened to check my email to see that Rand Paul was early announced the winner for the Kentucky Senate seat. Having friends who were working the campaign, and having been to his initial fundraiser in Washington, DC, I grew kinds of excited. Granted Rand seems to have more neo conservative beliefs that his father from statements I have read of his, or briefs I have saw on the news, but he still is a lot closer to someone I can bring myself to support than any of the establishment talking heads from either of our nations false dichotomy of political choices.

I elected to go grab a beer at a local bar instead of going to the gym to celebrate. There was a local watering hole, which was basically a dive bar, which was just down the road. The bartender on Tuesday nights was a political science graduate student. She was pretty cute, and the first night we met there we had spent 3 hours arguing politics, so I thought this would be a good place to go have a beer and possibly get into some good intellectual conversation.

When I arrived at the bar they had all TV’s on the News Channels watching election results, the first TV I saw showed Rand giving his victory speech, and I excited got lost in the moment and said, “That’s my boy”, as my bartender friend asked if I came to watch the election with them. I then quickly came to realize all of her classmates who were obviously “Democratic” in nature were poking fun at Rand’s victory. In giving the speech Rand said something about the Tea Party marching on or something of that nature, and lots of hisses and off comments in mocking “rural accents” ensued. Now granted, I had been pretty well turned off by the Tea Party concept as of late, as the Glen Beck’s and Bill O’Reily’s of the media had took this original noble concept of limiting government control and manipulation of our lives and our wallets, and manipulated it into a GOP machine through fear mongering and hate inspiration. So originally I wasn’t to insulted, but couldn’t resist picking a little fight to get my blood pumping.

I spoke out above the crowd which was about 3 girls and 4 guys deep of their click of Democratic supporters. I challenged them to explain to me what it was exactly that they did not like about the tea party, expressing that I did have my own qualms with what it’s become, but wanted to hear from this group, who obviously through their expressions, were very adamantly opposed to this group or concept that is the “Tea Party”. The room quickly quieted down, as this group had realized that their collectivist group think was being challenged, and they were now being asked to actually explain their beliefs rather that just toss out classical political rhetoric about “damn the right”, “go team left”. The room went silent for a bit, and I spoke out again “come on now, I want to understand your frustrations”. One guy said “well I’m a democrat so I just don’t like anything conservative.” This took me back mentally to how angry I got at the election booth as the gentlemen tried to explain to me my option for voting straight party democrat or republican, and how angry I was that this was not only an option, but one they focus a lot of time explaining to the voting public. So by this time my blood was pumping more with anger and disappointment as I began to see I wasn’t going to get any intelligent conversation here, and that I was getting answers like these from what is likely the “future of my states government”.

Finally the quite guy next to me, who seemed to be adamantly watching and not participating in their conversations began to speak up and engage me in conversation. In a fairly articulate and intelligent voice he said to me, “the issue I take is that they want to revert to the constitution of original, and ignore all the steps we have made since which have ended slavery, and given blacks and women the right to vote.” I said “surely that is not what you think, as that has nothing to do with anything that I have heard of the Tea Party Message”. He said they want to revert back to states rights and began ranting on about something without giving me a chance to speak. I quickly stopped him and said, “slow down their Bowinkle. We are going to have an actual conversation here, not a political rant. And just to educate you on how conversations work, I speak, then you speak, and we both listen to each other’s points and respond accordingly.” He chuckled, and then seemed to lighten the mood and engage in actual conversation. I explained to him that just wanting to focus on more decentralized government control, doesn’t mean ignoring other amendments to the constitution, and that the main message that I have heard, or at least hope to hear from this new “constitutional conversation resurrection”, was that we needed to force congress to honor and follow due process of the constitution when passing laws, and not just run rampid ignoring that when they pass laws. I then went into in the example of the Arizona immigration law. I said I whole heartedly, disagree with that law, and believe it does violate constitutional principles of unwarranted searches and seizures, and that I stand adamantly against any law that requires people to carry papers. But that I however do support Arizona’s right to pass laws dealing with problems they are facing, and think that the federal government should challenges the law through due process and deem it unconstitutional due to the principles previously stated. And that by ignoring those due processes and checks and balances we further slip down the slippery slope to tyranny that we seem to want to grease up the sleds for the ride down.

We somehow drifted from that conversation to talking about 3rd parties, where he did agree the favoritism showed to the two major parties is a vast whole in the system, and even through in some conversation about Ron Paul in the debates. It didn’t seem to fit quite into where the conversation was, but just seemed to be a shortcut to where it was going, so I played along. Our conversation carried on for a bit, and it seemed that he was more with me then he was against, but just afraid to admit it to the group of collectivist mind thought that he had to deal with daily, so he quickly found an excuse to have to leave the bar.

I then overheard the bartender downstream, complaining about al l the negative adds that she received against democrats in the mail, and said that they should be considered slander. I couldn’t resist my chance to stick my nose back in and said, “and you think that is only done by the right?”. One of the girls said “well someone starts it and the other has to return, it’s the way the system works unfortunately, people just respond to negative ads”. They then got on a kick talking about how campaign funding needed to be limited. And the guy next to me (he must not have left quite yet) said something about it going against the 2nd amendment where she said yeah, I know there are those “free speech people”. Off goes the thermostat as Buddy has just gotten extremely heated. So before jumping into the “Free Speech people” argument, which would have likely got me livid, as how the hell can anyone say those “Free speech people”, is this not a perfect example of why we should be honoring our constitution?

But I digressed instead to “well why is it that people are willing to spend so much money on campaigns, and lobbying?” They shook their heads unsure of how to come back. I said “its Return on Investment, they wouldn’t do so if they weren’t going to get favors that could justify the money spent.” They then seemed to follow and say “that is why we need to limit the money they can spend on campaigning”. And I said “No, the real question you should be asking is why do our politicians have the power to grant those favors? That power sure wasn’t written in that constitution, do you think maybe reverting back to following the constitution might be a good idea?”
They obviously were getting tired of me crashing their group think party and started to ignore me worst than they were before. I asked the bartender to close my tab. And could overhear in the distance the remainder of the folks at the bar reverting back to their “rural accent mocking”. With lines like “I’m an Ameri’can’”.

As I paid my tab and prepared to leave, I felt sad inside realizing that they had no idea that the stereotypes and accents they were mocking were exactly what the rest of the countries elitist mindset lumped them right along into as West Virginian’s.
Crashing this democrat party sure put a damper on my night, and left me with yet more of a sick taste in mouth for the current state of politics in this country.

I am sure if I would have found a right wing bar down the street it would have turned out just the same with opposing fear mongering and hate inspired antics, blaming everything on the other side. I can only hold on to the few glimmers of hope that I saw from Rand Paul being his father’s son, to the kid next to me, who sure seemed to want to be against the establishment, but was just afraid to, that there might actually be real seeds of change starting to turn in this country. But between now and then, I am stuck here with the rest of you, dealing with the hypocrisy of our political system.

Are we approaching the end ....

Are we headed for disaster? Is our world falling apart? When you turn on the news these days you can not help but be bogged down in all of the natural or man caused disasters that are going on all around us. Floods, hurricanes, blizzards, earthquakes, tsunamis are becoming more and more predominant and accepted as day to day events. Economic systems around the world are beginning to unravel, wars and threats of wars seem to be on all horizons with no clear end in sight.

Our people seem to be frantically running around in a state of chaos seeking for something to believe in or some form of stability as reflective in our political climate today. In the US political mess it is easy to get lost in the political mumbo jumbo that is tossed out by media counterparts on either of the sides of the two headed snake that is our political machine. It seems as if many are attempting to take the reins and help guide us through this troubling period, many politicians claim to know the answers and what is best, but seem to not realize that they only see the world from their own perspective and are not taking the time to step back far enough to look at the bigger picture of what is really going on in our world today.

Our world is cyclical in nature, everything happens in patterns that always seem to circle back. In today’s climate though to many people are caught up in the power plays of the here and now to look at this bigger picture.
There are many pompous people in our political climate (liberal and conservative alike) who believe they know what is best for the world, and who believe only their ideas are right, and others shouldn't be allowed to think freely.

Those worshiping the science books and educational hierarchies of today have built up a fairy tale in their minds that he was smarter than everyone else (probably a self protection mechanism to justify the life of debt that they have sold their selves into to finance their educations). Notwithstanding the need and accomplishments in the scientific community we have grown so far away from basic understanding and common sense in our theories and teachings that we have drifted into this land of make believe to a place where critical thinking and understanding are chastised if they do not go along with the socially or scientifically crafted thoughts of the day. This chastization includes any spiritual beliefs that may not be fully explainable by science. Within our societies growth in knowledge and understanding it seems that many of our academic elites have came up with the idea that they are to smart to believe in any form of a God greater than themselves, and would even go farther to mock and chastise those that do have such beliefs.

Perhaps if we could take a step back and look at this bigger picture and think outside of the scripted thought process preached down to us through years of memorization in our great educational system, we may be able to have a deeper understanding outside the box that our socially / politically corrected culture has put us in.

People have prophesized about the end of the world for a long time, made different assumptions about the days, etc. But when so many of our ancient cultures align in their prophecies it makes this time in our life very interesting.

For those who are to headstrong to allow themselves to see this from a spiritual perspective, the scientific perspective is just as strong at pointing you in the same direction. If you believe the world was created by some big bang, could it not go down just the same, and if so wouldn't there be some merit in looking at what our scientist have pointed out is going to be occurring around the time of this galactic alignment. And when you look at the fact that every major system we know is collapsing all around us, doesn't that seem to point towards something?

We have cast aside the idea of family, parents no longer taking responsibility for raising their own children, to busy working and taking care of themselves they pass the burden down to society at large to raise their children for them. As this has become commonplace parents vote for laws that take away their liberties in order to help protect their children from the evils of free choices in society, instead of focusing on teaching their children the differences between right and wrong and what they should and shouldn’t to themselves.

The idea of a family (father, mother, children, grandchildren, nieces, uncles, nephews, cousins) is quickly becoming erased from our perspective. Divorce is treated as a pass in the wind, efforts to take personal responsibility and sacrifice in the name of your children are no longer valued or expected as is evident with the trillions of dollars of debt we consider an acceptable act to pass to our children to pay back. The idea of building wealth or leaving the world in a better place to pass on to our children is all but a lost concept, a faint recollection of ideas of past generations.

This occurs not only on the national level, but with our greedy materialistic me, me, me now, now, now society. We have become drones to credit card companies letting them push us farther and farther into slavery and passing that debt/ indentured servitude on to our children. On top of that the rate of single parents has greatly increased, while the rate of people taking their children to church or any act of family meals or time together to help promote values has greatly decreased. Quality family time, a cohesive family unit is something we as a society at large has decided is not important to us in this day and age. If those are not sings that our basic system of family is collapsing I am not sure how you much clearer this could be

And our environment as we know it is shifting. Is it a natural shift, or one cause by humanity and our over zealousness, pollution, and lack of concern for the future and moderation? Or is all of that a part of the natural shift based on the planetary cycles? Either way you cannot deny the natural disasters shifts in climate, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes that have been occurring and will continue to get worse. Our earth is working on readjusting for the new cycle, and it “ain't gonna be pretty.” Will it be an Extinction Level Event, who knows, I have my doubts that the natural disasters in and of themselves will be our demise, but I think they are one of the 4 horsemen that are rushing in.

When coupled with the economic crisis and complete failure of our economic systems at large that is becoming more and more viewed as eminent then I start to worry. The US dollar is basically unstoppable from crashing into oblivion with our current practices. China has given us an official WTF, and students in China laughed atrociously as Geitner tried to tell them that the US dollar should be viewed as a stable currency. (The Laugh Heard Round the World: Chinese Laugh at Geithner's Reassurances on US Dollar and Economy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qwijWYxV8U )

With the globalization of the world as we collapse the hurt will be felt globally. As we, all across the globe, are trying to recover and rebuild a financial system, right about the time the earth is going even more crazy adjusting to the solar realignment and or recovering from our reckless consumption of natural resources, hmmm this could get rather tricky., Starting to see this as 2 of the horsemen?

And don't forget about the world of warfare that are currently living in that seems to be on a clandestine path for more and more warfare with no end in sight. And we should consider the fact that most of this warfare world we live in seems to be centered on the middle east. No one can deny the significance of the middle east as the religious center for Christianity, Muslim and Jewish faith. Why else (other than the oil, but we could worry just as much about the oil in Russia, South America, or start drilling more here at home if that was really the case) do we waste all of these resources effort and lives in these wars in these areas. There are genocides going on in Africa, but we don't much seem to care about that, nor is much effort or fuss made by most of the world, but if Israel Sneezes, the world reacts.

So when this holy land wars breaks out in all their fury, battle lines will be drawn as the world reacts. And many believe that it’ss virtually inevitable that we will be seeing the Israel / Iran (or if not that directly some major form of war erupt in the middle east). I watched as Obama read a statement to Iran stating they had "two weeks to comply" sounded a little bit like a story from the Bush administration as I recall.
What I did notice was how not in that speech he was. He looked as if someone was forcing him to read it with a gun to his wives head. He was really giving the WTF am I saying this for, and if one thing Obama is good at its believing in what he is saying, why he is such a powerful public speaker, I don't agree with 90% of what he says, but I do give him "props" for believing. And he definitely wasn't believing that speech. But he is powerless in this New World Order Imperialistic mindset that our United Nations has become, and he knows that “it’s a hard rain gonna fall” in the middle east, and that he is somehow going to have to drag America into it. And this great war erupting while the dollar is collapsing, while mother nature is resetting, sounds like the distant galloping of 3 horsemen to me.

Where do we look for the 4th horsemen? Maybe we should look within the breakdown of the family structure, or the fading away from religion of any type. Maybe the greed that has taken over our mindsets, the lack of personal responsibility that has fallen on our people, or the lack of caring about the future “carpe diem” seems to be the battle cry.
I think thought these are more symptoms of the above problems myself.

Maybe the 4th horseman isn’t the evil of these, instead perhaps we should look to other interpretations where the white horsemen represents the righteousness. Maybe it is this seeded awakening of good people that we now see. Fighting through the shadows, while being mocked for having these ideas that don't fit into our societies ego. Maybe it is those crazies, we have labeled and cast aside for years, still sticking to their guns, and finally people starting to say hmm maybe they were right. Maybe the people who are willing to stand up to their government, and societal norms and say enough is enough.

Of course most people will just cast this aside as more crazy talk, but a wise man was once quoted as saying “Truth is treason in the empire of lies” – Ron Paul. Maybe this is just crazy-talk or maybe people are too busy drinking the political correct / social correct kool-aid and the not so scientific science, that we have been force-fed for so long. Perhaps it is time that we get off our ego’s and start looking at classic wisdom in believing in spirituality or religion to try and understand.
I will leave you with some lyrics:

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? ooh!
Some say its just a part of it:
Weve got to fulfil de book.

Wont you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;

The Jukebox Competition:

After watching the WVU mens Basketball team lose to Villanova at Keglers, I was unable to make a left out of the parking lot because of the hords of traffic leaving the coliseum. So I made a right and decided to take the back way to my new townhouse. When I passed this little sports bar called Mihayle’s I thought what the hell one more beer couldn’t hurt.

When I go to the bar there were about 5 people there, I sat at the bar stool ordered a Miller Lite, and was sizing the place up. The couple girls at the right end of the bar were talking to the bartender about their friend who came down earlier, the bartender said she took like 5 shots of Italian Ice and then had to have some guy walk her home because she was to drunk, the bartender said yeah man she likes to get fucked up, and I thought to myself, god it’s good to be back home.

The guy sitting to my right kept on trying to have a convo with the bartender about somebody shooting off fireworks that weekend, but she didn’t seem to want to care, and this black kid sitting to my left was eating a big bowl of what looked like cereal, which I asked him if it was what it was, and he said it was soup, and went on about how it was supposed to be potatoe soup but tasted like clam chowder. The two bartenders were cute, one a dirty blonde about 5’6 really thin, not a great body from what I could tell, but a really cute face. The other a really short brunette with about the same body makeup, but that fitted her better as she was so small.

Shortly after the girls to the right left, and it was down to me and the 4 guys and the bartenders, and I was debating leaving, when this group of girls walked in and the one went to the jukebox. The one playing the jukebox lead off with Wagon Wheel as by Old Crow Medicine Shoe to which the guy sitting next to me and myself raised up our glasses and told the girl great choice, a few songs later he mentioned damn this girl played some great music you normally don’t get that here. The next song was a newer Eric Church song called a long line of sinners like me. The line in it

Now me and my brother go to see him some times
But he don't have much to say anymore,
So we sit on his headstone with a fifth of Jack D.
Here's to a long line of sinners like me

Made me nostalgic for the whiskey table nights with my father around the holiday’s so I ordered up a shot of Jack. And it came about the time the next line.

On the day I die
I know where I'm gonna go
Me and Jesus got that part worked out
I'll wait at the gates til his face I see
And stand in a long line of sinners like me

And I thought that was a good one to shoot it down to. Another good song came on, the bartender came over and asked if I wanted another shot, and I replied your trying to get me drunk aren’t you. About that time the jukebox selections degraded, as someone else had picked a few after the first girl, and I went and through a dollar in and played the not as well known Zac Brown Jolene. To which my original jukebox friend came up and asked me who sang the song and we chatted for a bit.

I was getting ready to cash out when she through another 20 in the jukebox and started playing some more good songs. She told me to come pick a few, so we went back and forth with great jukebox classics, from Otis Reading, to Bob Dylan, I snuck in some Kid Rock, she came back with some Alabama, I followed up with David Alan Coe if tha ain’t country and everyone in the bar was singing along by now, and somehow the waitress had slipped me another shot in between, and I told her listen here cutie I don’t care how drunk you get me your not taking me home, which brought out a pretty smile (yeah I’m in).

The table full of girls playing the jukebox sent a round of shots up to me and the boys at the bar. So I came back and sat with them, bought them around, and we bullshitted about the beauty of a jukebox, she said she worked at Archies for years, and she definitely learned her way around a Jukebox.

I went over to play a couple more songs and this cute redhead was over there, we started talking about how she just moved back from Costa Rica after breaking up with her bf. Somehow we got onto jobs, and when I told her what I did I followed up with how I hate working for the government, when I found out she was a bigger conspiracy theory nut than me, we sat and talked conspiracy for a while, she gave me her digits, the girl sitting across from me told me she met the love of her life the other day who was a pipe fitter, I laughed, and said sorry it’s an inside joke.

I went over and said my good byes to the table full of girls with my jukebox hero (really should have got her digits, but I am sure I will see her around again). Bought the two guys at the bar a beer, and gave my bartender a hug with my tip as I left.

Walking outside to my Jeep to drive up the snowcovered backroad back to my house, I thought to myself, god it’s good to be home.

Man I love Morgantown.
